Diabetes
and Biofeedback
Biofeedback
is grounded in mind-body medicine: the principal that
we can affect the health of our body through the power
of our minds. Biofeedback has been shown to provoke
in us extraordinary capabilities of control over physiological
events. In practical terms, this may lead to people
being able to assert their own therapy over the body’s
functions including heart rate and blood pressure.
This has an application when it comes to negating
stress and depression, and may be of some use in the
treatment of chronic diseases, including diabetes.
Biofeedback uses a specially designed machine that
records muscle contractions and skin temperature using
sensors. Using this machine, you can begin to learn
the basic principles of controlling your body. Biofeedback
could be particularly useful for sufferers from diabetes
who are also prone to headaches (as poor vision caused
by diabetic retinopathy can cause headaches.)
