Can High Cholesterol Lead to a Heart Attack?

It is often found the buildup of cholesterol narrows your arteries and makes it harder for blood to flow through them. It reduces the amount of blood that gets to your body tissues, including your heart. This can lead to serious problems, including heart attack and stroke.

During dense plaque formation ,the buildup may crack or tear resulting blood to clot in that area. This blood clot condition is called thrombus. In this condition if blood clotting is large enough to fully block the artery that happens to be in one of your heart's arteries, called the coronary arteries, it causes a heart attack. A heart attack is also called a myocardial infarction.
