80% of gallstones
are classified as
- Cholesterol
stones --------cholesterol stones are said to be the
result of bile that is made of too much cholesterol
or bilirubin and not enough bile salts. Cholesterol
stones may also form when the gallbladder fails to
properly empty during the digestive process.
Cholesterol stones are usually yellow-green and are
made primarily of hardened cholesterol. They account
for about 80 percent of gallstones
- pigment
stones-------- The reason for formation of pigment
stones in the gallbladder is still unknown . People
who have cirrhosis of the liver, biliary tract infections,
and hereditary blood disorders usually are said to
be cause of pigment stones.
Pigment stones are small, dark stones made of bilirubin.
