Lymph
node dissection is to determine if any breast cancer
cells from the tumor in your breast have moved into
the nodes.
The procedure
identifies, using a radioactive tracer or a blue
dye – sometimes both – the first sentinel lymph
node in the outward path toward the armpit.
In this
way pathologist examines more closely one or two
sentinel nodes, and can detect cancer that has spread
